About the Beismer One-Name Study

This will be the home of the Beismer One-Name Study. 

What is a one-name study? "A one-name study is a project researching a specific surname, as opposed to a particular pedigree or descendency of one person or couple. A one-name study is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Studies may include a number of family trees which have no link with each other."  Wikipedia

One-name studies are, according to the guidelines of WikiTree and the Guild of One-Name Studies, exhaustive; meaning I will be looking for every individual with any of the variant surnames of Beismer, that I can find, wherever they are, whenever they lived. That means that the study can continue, by someone else, after I am gone. 

Beismer is the spelling of the surname, as used, for the past few generations, in my maternal grandfather's family, but, even within the family there are different spellings; in different generations. 

I have also found the following variant spellings related to members of the family, or not: Beasmer, Beasimer, Beesmer, Beesimer, Besimer, Biesemeyer, Biesemeier and more. There are, reportedly, 42 to 52 variant spellings counted so far. 

The name is pronounced Bees-mer or Bees-eh-mer and is not related to the surname Bessemer which is pronounced Bess-mer or Bess-eh-mer. 

I will only include those surnames that are pronounced Bees-mer or Bees-eh-mer; I will not include those spelled similar to Baysmer and pronounced Bays-mer.

There are several families in what was the original Ulster County with several of those spellings. They may or may not be related. 

I began this one-name study, like many do, because I could not find the origins of the family and knew there were variant spellings. Both WikiTree and the Guild of One-Name Studies have guidelines and instructions for conducting such a study. The Guild suggests a web site for each study so I decided that Blogger would suffice.
